The high court in Pietermaritzburg has stopped the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal’s highly anticipated provincial conference from going ahead. The conference was set to begin on Friday.
Judge Jacqueline Henriques issued an interim order halting the elective meeting saying, “If these allegations are correct, and there is a risk of [this weekend’s conference] meeting being irregular, then we have to stop it.”
ANC members from the Moses Mabhida region had argued that processes towards holding the branch general meetings in the region had been flawed and that they had exhausted the party’s internal mechanisms.
They also said the meetings were marred by gatekeeping and sidelining of party members.
