Actor Rapulana Seiphemo, who plays Tau Mogale on the SABC1 soapie
Generations: The Legacy, was in a car accident on Sunday night and is recovering in a Johannesburg hospital.

The collision took place on the N14 near Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, according to
Sunday World newspaper.

“Rapulana is a fighter; he’ll definitely pull through,” Generations’ Gaaratwe Mokhethi said in a statement.

The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, cleaned up at the Bafta awards amid a red carpet protest that sought to highlight poor diversity in the industry.

The film scooped up five awards, including best picture and best actor. It also took best director (Alejandro González Iñárritu), best cinematography and best sound.

Mad Max was also a big winner, taking home four awards: costume design, make-up and hair, production design and editing awards.

DiCaprio has been nominated three times for these awards but this was his first win, which saw him trump
The Martian star Matt Damon, Trumbo’s Bryan Cranston, Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl.

Although the Baftas are regarded as more racially diverse than the Oscars, only two black actors were nominated, John Boyega and Idris Elba.
Boyega took home the EE Rising Star Award which was voted for by the public.

From the red carpet, Boyega said of the protest: “I just think a larger conversation is being had and I think that’s a very, very positive thing.”

Is Kanye West in $53-million debt?

US hip-hop star Kanye West has recently made headlines for launching his fashion line, the Yeezy Season 3 collection and his eighth studio album, The Life of Pablo, at Madison Square Garden last week. But despite all his business and creative ventures, the rapper seems to be drowning in a debt of a $53-million, according to a tweet he posted just before performing his new songs on the
Saturday Night Live TV show.

West is yet to confirm his debt situation and it’s still not clear which one of his ventures landed him in debt.

Like a damsel in distress, he reached out to tech entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg on Twitter, asking him for help: “Mark Zuckerberg invest 1 billion dollars into Kanye West ideas”; “Mark Zuckerberg I know it’s your bday but can you please call me by 2mrw…”.

The one place West should not even seek help from, is from the Taylor Swift protection unit, aka Swift’s fan club. He recently rubbed her fans and fellow celebrities up the wrong way with the lyrics of his new song Famous. In the song he calls Swift the B-word, and says he’d have sex with Swift and then claims he made the pop singer famous.

Actors and singers, who stand by Swift, feel West’s lyrics are misogynistic.

According to reports, West warned Swift about the lyrics, but her publicist says that is not accurate. She says  West didn’t call Swift for approval of the lyrics but to ask her to release Famous on her Twitter account.

Ciara and Future’s parenting dramas took another turn with leaked email correspondence claiming that Future is a negligent father who smoked marijuana in the presence of his baby Future jnr and returned him in soiled clothes, the United Kingdom’s
Daily Mail reported.

The emails written by lawyers representing Ciara, counter claims made about Ciara that she was using her baby as a weapon, saying that she has “serious concerns about the Future’s parenting skills and the safety of the baby while in his care”.

Ciara had sued Future for slander, libel and defamation emanating from a series of tweets, including one that said: “This bitch got control issues.”

Rappers heat up Wits’s #Access campaign

The access campaign, initiated by the University of the Witwatersrand’s student representative committee, trended on Twitter today thanks to some good-natured competition from rappers Ifani and Cassper Nyovest.

The two went toe-to-toe, so to speak, with their donations of R50?000 each.

Ifani was the first to throw down the gauntlet, posting a video in support of the campaign

and tweeted:

Cassper responded in a matter of minutes with his R50?000 donation.

Then the inevitable happened: people began wondering whether AKA would rise to the challenge. He was last seen posting pics from the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Toronto. Major League, also challenged by Ifani, dodged the exercise with a lame excuse.

The road to the Grammys

The Grammys are finally here and the list of performers for the awards ceremony, which takes place on February 15 in the United States, is out.

The line-up, according to
CNN, includes Swift, who received seven nominations, The Weeknd, Adele, Justin Bieber, Ellie Goulding, Alice Cooper, Pitbull, Skrillex, Little Big Town, Meghan Trainor, Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar who is leading the nominations with 11 nods.

Singer Lady Gaga will pay tribute to rock legend David Bowie, while soul and funk band Earth, Wind & Fire, who recently lost one of its members, Maurice White, will present the award for record of the year. The band will also receive a lifetime achievement award at another ceremony later this year.

The heavily-contested Record of the Year category includes pop sensations The Weekend for
Can’t Feel My Face, Ed Sheeran for Thinking Out Loud, Swift for Blank Space, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for Uptown Funk and D’Angelo and The Vanguard for Really Love – a surprise in the category.
