#FeesMustFall leader Mcebo Dlamini granted bail

The Palm Ridge magistrate’s court has granted Wits University Fees Must Fall leader Mcebo Dlamini bail on condition that he does not unlawfully disrupt academic activities at Wits University.

Bail was set at R2 000, as Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng overturned a previous decision that had denied Dlamini bail. Judge Mokgoathleng said the previous decision was not lawfully sound.

Students who came out to support Dlamini cheered and celebrated as the judge made the ruling.
The full judgment will be handed down in two weeks, which will include reasons for why the decision to deny bail is not sound in law and fact.

“Justice has been served,” Dlamini said, after the judge made the ruling.

He was arrested on charges that included alleged public violence and theft during the course of the Fees Must Fall student protests.
