Gauteng Township Entrepreneurship Awards

Entrepreneurs and SMMEs continue to gain momentum as positive and significant contributors to the development of the South African economy and play a significant role in the reduction of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

The Township Entrepreneurship Awards (TEAs) is an initiative launched in association with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to mandate and revitalise the economy of the townships in the Gauteng City Region.

The main objective of the awards is to recognise and reward entrepreneurial talent in township settlements while building and cementing confidence in township-based businesses. Equally important is the impact that the awards will have in changing negative perceptions about township-based businesses as well as encouraging and inspiring township entrepreneurs to realise the conceivable economic gains for the communities within which they operate.

The Mail & Guardian is a proud sponsor of the inaugural M&G Community Media Journalist of the Year category.  The nominees have played a vital role in keeping those in their immediate locality informed by presenting stories that impact their daily lives.
These journalists are the most important and reliable contributors to trusted reportage in any community and the Mail & Guardian is an honoured supporter of their endeavours.
