The department of basic education, the Hawks and the South African Police Service have launched a probe into the alleged leaking of a maths paper two exam paper in Giyani, Limpopo.

The department’s spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, said in a statement that pupils at a few schools in the Mopani district had access to the maths paper before it was written.

“We are going to quarantine all the scripts of the schools in the area to establish if there are any patterns. A team from the department and one from the province are working together with law enforcement to get to the bottom of this matter so that we can take appropriate action,” he said.

He said a case was opened with police.

“The department would like to assure pupils, parents and other stakeholders that it is has taken extra ordinary measures to safeguard the integrity of these exams and will work tirelessly to expose and charge those behind the incident of the maths exam paper in Limpopo,” he said.

He appealed to pupils, parents and members of the community to report any incidents of papers being leaked and expose those behind the acts.
