Embattled ANC Western Cape chairperson has slammed the report by the party’s integrity commission on sexual harassment allegations lodged against him, saying it is “seriously flawed”.
Fransman, who was suspended five months ago pending disciplinary action, was accused of sexual harassment by Louisa Wynand when she accompanied him as his personal assistant to Rustenburg for the ANC’s 104th anniversary celebration.
The integrity commission then recommended that disciplinary charges be imposed upon Fransman by the ANC’s national disciplinary committee after saying in its report that the evidence presented by Wynand was of a convincing nature and “more likely to be true, than not”.
But, according to News24, Fransman said in Cape Town on Thursday the allegations were part of a political plot to destroy him.
“I won’t get into the details of the report, but I will say that the report is seriously flawed. It should be declared invalid because it’s impossible that I could have done anything like that,” Fransman said.
“There are some people who are trying to incriminate me and take me out using an incident that never happened.
“They want to see me prosecuted and destroyed politically.”
Fransman proceeded to court this week to obtain a copy of the integrity commission’s report, and to request that he be granted an order confirming him as provincial leader, but suddenly withdrew his case on Thursday.
“I have been part of the ANC since I was 26 and I’ve never had disciplinary issues,” Fransman said.
Frasman said he felt he was singled out as other senior members of the party had not undergone the same treatment.
“I want to move past this but all members of the party equally and be consistent in disciplinary matters.” – Additional reporting by News24
