South African mobile operator MTN has launched a programme rewarding subscribers for reviving dormant SIM cards.

“MTN is giving back to its customers by surprising those with dormant SIM cards with ZAR10 airtime,” said Brian Gouldie, chief marketing officer (CMO) at MTN South Africa.

“To benefit from this promotion, a customer needs to put the old SIM back into a mobile phone, use the reward that is waiting for him or her, and then keep the SIM in the phone.”

The operator classifies a dormant SIM as one that has not been used for over 31 days.

“And because MTN is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the organisation will give even more back. So customers should keep using their old SIM cards to receive future surprises that will be offered throughout the year,” said Gouldie.
