Nigeria’s largest online forum Nairaland has been down since Sunday, with founder Seun Osewa saying the site may be offline longer than expected.

Visitors to the site are currently shown an Error 522 page, with the hosting company, CloudFlare (London), saying: “An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn’t finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources.”

In a Tweet, Osewa said: “It may be worse than you think. It may take much longer than you expect.”

Nairaland is one of Nigeria’s most visited sites, with 1.3 million visitors at the last check.

The site first went offline on May 30, and though Osewa did not say what was wrong, he admitted there was a problem.

“Thanks for your concern. I really appreciate it. Nairaland is back again,” Osewa told HumanIPO in May.
