The Nigerian government has announced plans to transform public libraries across Nigeria into public access points to allow them to provide reliable and affordable internet access.

This was announced by minister of state and supervising minister of education Nyesom Wike, who also said the federal government in partnership with state governments is committed to the digital turnaround of public libraries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 1st Conference of Certified Librarians organised by the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Wike said lots of interventions are underway for the libraries.

“The Federal Government is planning many strategic interventions in the library and information science sector,” he said.
