Also known as the Tecno A7, this device is the latest product from TecnoMobile. It has a premium look and a phablet appearance. The device is presently being sold in Nigeria with a free 5200mAh power bank and a smart cover for protection.

The device has a 5.2-inch AMOLED display and Gorilla Glass. Its screen resolution is 1920 × 1080 pixels (424 PPI), and has a dimension of 71.9 x 144.5 x 7.8 mm. it comes with a 32GB internal memory, 16MP rear and 8MP front cameras.

It is powered by an Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, and is a dual micro SIM device that runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat operating system.

Physical Features

It is 7.8mm thick which makes it a slim smartphone considering the fact that it is about 0.3mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S5. Phantom Z has a plastic body while the back cover is made of made of leather grain textured plastic.

The cover cannot be removed, it doesn’t have a SD Card slot; while its power button is on the right, the SIM tray and volume controls are on the right. The MicroUSB port is at the bottom with the 3.5mm audio jack at the top.

Performance and Battery

The device readily supports multitasking and applications running in the background are hardly force killed due to memory issues. The device has a better battery compared to previously released Tecno products. With data turned off, 60% of the battery life remained after two days. The provision of power bank means the battery could be made to last even longer for internet, multimedia and gaming purposes.

Shortcomings

NFC isn’t enable on the device, non-availability of a SD card slot since only 17GB of the device’s 32GB internal memory is available to users as the operating system and pre-installed apps such as Flashare, Facebook and BBM had taken the rest.

The device is a great improvement and further proves that TecnoMobile understands the needs of the African users and excluding the stuffs in Samsung products that Africans are not crazy about.  With an impressive operating system and longer battery life, Phantom Z will be a device that will be embraced by Africans who are able to delete unnecessary files on their device, use more of cloud services and are kind enough to let go of memory cards.
