Pay-TV firm StarTimes has unveiled its self-produced Star Swahili channel in a bid to revamp its offering for Kenyan subscribers to include local content.

The channel will be available on all the StarTimes bouquet options, including the basic bouquet, with the company eyeing growth in similar channel options in the future, which will include other Kenyan dialects.

StarTimes has partnered with content developers to promote local talent, with the major flagship content being Churchill Live – Kenya’s leading stand-up comedy show – and Samantha Bridal – a wedding reality show with heavy emphasis on the challenges couples face as they plan their weddings.

Speaking during the unveiling of the revamped content, StarTimes vice president for marketing Hans Han said the company has pre-licensed an array of fresh shows that will air between now and December.

“Star Swahili goes live immediately and promises an unrivaled mix of Kiswahili movies, series, drama, comedy, documentaries, celebrity lifestyles and talk shows. As a company, we are committed to quality content acquisition and development for this and more channels to come key in progressively enriching the television viewing experience for our subscribers,” he said.
