The Road Freight Association is remaining mum on a looming truckers strike.

Wage negotiations in the sector have reportedly been ongoing since June.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union says it will bring the country’s economy to a halt by embarking on a nationwide strike should no agreement be reached.

The Road Freight Association has told Newswatch it will not comment on the possible strike.

While SATAWU has reportedly said the 3-month long negotiations are still ongoing – it will go on a full-blown strike if the negotiations do not yield fruit.

One of their demands is that workers receive a minimum salary of 6-thousand-Rand.

A previous truckers strike in 2012 went on for more than 4-weeks and was riddled with reports of violence and intimidation.
